These images of plants and creatures that live in a wetland recall the study of botany as a feminist act.

Work as a botanical illustrator was considered a highly respected profession, and significantly, one that noble women could practice in the 18th and 19th century when few other options for a formal education were available to them. Although their contributions to science have rarely been fully recognized, it did contribute to women’s education and “an early tradition of female science.” - Fiona Curran.
